Everything you need to know about how KnowYourChat works, what data it handles, and your rights.
🔒 The short version: KnowYourChat stores everything locally on your device. We have no servers that receive your data. Nothing you save in the extension is ever sent anywhere — not to us, not to anyone.
KnowYourChat reads publicly visible chat messages on Twitch, YouTube Live and Kick — but only on streams you are actively watching. It processes this text locally in your browser to detect personal information that viewers share voluntarily in public chat, such as their job, location, birthday or interests.
All viewer profiles, notes and settings are stored exclusively in your browser's local storage using Chrome's chrome.storage.local API. This data never leaves your device. It is not transmitted to any server, not shared with any third party, and not accessible to us at any time.
No. KnowYourChat contains no analytics, tracking pixels, usage reporting or telemetry of any kind. We have no visibility into how you use the extension.
KnowYourChat uses the MyMemory translation API for the optional auto-translation feature. When this feature is used, the chat message text is sent to MyMemory's servers for translation. No personally identifying information is included — only the raw chat text. Please see MyMemory's privacy policy for how they handle that data.
Since we hold no personal data about you on our end, there is nothing for us to delete, export or provide. If you wish to delete your locally stored viewer data, you can do so at any time from the Settings panel within the extension. Uninstalling the extension will remove all locally stored data entirely.
KnowYourChat is intended for streamers and their moderators aged 13 and over. We do not knowingly collect data from children.

By installing and using KnowYourChat, you agree to the following terms. If you do not agree, please uninstall the extension.
⚠️ Important: KnowYourChat is designed exclusively for streamers to use on their own channel's chat, or for moderators acting on behalf of a streamer. It is not intended for, and must not be used for, monitoring or collecting information from streams or chats that you do not own or moderate. Using this tool to scrape, monitor or profile viewers on channels you have no connection to is a violation of these terms and likely violates the platform's own terms of service.
This tool is not intended for third parties monitoring streams they have no association with, researchers collecting data without consent, or any party seeking to aggregate or analyse viewer information at scale.
KnowYourChat only reads publicly visible chat messages. It does not access private messages, account credentials or any non-public platform data. It operates within the bounds of each platform's public interface.
We reserve the right to update these terms at any time. Continued use of the extension after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.

You can export all your viewer data at any time from the Settings panel within the extension. You can also import a backup or wipe all data from the same panel. Uninstalling the extension removes all locally stored data permanently.
Because all data is stored locally on your device using Chrome's built-in storage APIs, its security depends on the security of your Chrome profile and device. We recommend keeping Chrome up to date and using a secure device password.
KnowYourChat is provided as-is, without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We make no guarantees about the accuracy of information detected in chat — the extension uses heuristic pattern matching which may occasionally produce false positives or miss information entirely.
We are not liable for any damages arising from use or inability to use the extension, including but not limited to data loss, inaccurate viewer information, or platform policy changes that affect functionality.
KnowYourChat is an independent project and is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Twitch, YouTube, Kick or any other platform.
